My Creative Process: Old Cutting Board Transformed

Hi all,

So… I have been really intrigued by the idea of creating art using unorthodox materials. I especially like the idea of using found objects as materials to paint on. For example, in an earlier post, I showcased my paintings on old records.

The main topic for today’s post is a piece that I have created out of a seemingly useless piece of wood. An old cutting board to be exact. A cutting board that I sanitized, painted with a base coat of white paint, decoupaged, painted again using a plethora of colors and then embellished with buttons and other odds and ends. Below you will find the method of creation for this piece that I call: Bibliophile.

1
Painting The Cutting Board White
2
Decoupage: Book Pages and Scrapbook Paper
3
Outlining the Image in Pencil
4
Painting Basic Shapes. Adding Blocks of Color.
5
Adding the Base Colors.
6
Even More Color!
7
Finishing Touches. Black Outlines, Final Details and Embellishments.

And Voila! I have successfully (I think) turned an old, practically unusable wooden cutting board into a piece of art.

If you liked this piece, like my Facebook fan page to get updates about new works that I create or follow this blog @ annotatedaudrey.wordpress.com!

As always, thank you so much for taking time to read this post!
