Hello Citizens of the Blogosphere,
Since I lead a fairly busy life, I tend to like sketchbooks that are portable and easy to carry in my purse. (Check out my post about my basic sketching toolkit.)
A couple of weeks ago, I found a Canon XL Mix Media Sketchbook Value Pack for a really good price ($8 at Blick). Since I’ve had a positive experience with this line of sketchbooks before, I decided to go ahead and give these a shot. The pack I got comes with two sketchbooks. One is 12″ × 9″ and the other one (advertised as the free one) is 8½” × 5½”.
For the most part, I was more intrigued by the smaller of the two sketchbooks and I’m going to be focusing on that one exclusively in this review.
Obviously, once I took the sketchbook home, the first thing I did was modify the cover.
Here are my thoughts on the product overall:
- Great Value: $8 for two sketchbooks is kind of a steal, given the quality of the product.
- Portable: The size of the sketchbook makes it easy to carry around, especially if your go to purse is a tote bag. (Please keep in mind that it will kind of be like carrying a hardcover book in your bag.)
- Versatile: As this is a mix media sketchbook, it works well with a variety of different media from colored pencils to watercolor paints. (Although, I will say that it’s not the best for pencil sketching. I’ve found that pencil tends to smear and get all over the other pages. To fix this problem, I put pieces of scrap paper over the drawings to prevent smearing. This issue can also be remedied by spraying some sort of fixative on your drawings.)
Here is a sneak peak into my sketchbook so far…
My happy place is inside my head- a place where I am free to think and create. My sketchbook helps me get to my happy place, facilitating my escape from the real world from time to time. They keep my daily life exciting and make my world colorful and bright.
